Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

His defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
